- Motorola has launched the Motorola Moto G (2022) and the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022).
- The former comes in at $400 and has some decent specs for its price. The latter is a 2022 model of last year’s Moto G Stylus 5G.
- Both phones will be available soon in the United States.
Earlier this year, Motorola became the third-largest smartphone vendor in North America, which is the world’s third-largest smartphone market. A lot of this success is based not on the company’s flagships but on its budget and mid-range models.
With that in mind, Motorola has two new phones launching today. The first is the new Motorola Moto G (2022) which starts at $400. This is the newest “vanilla” entry in its popular Moto G line. Meanwhile, the company also has the Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G (2022), the follow-up to last year’s Moto G Stylus 5G (2021). That phone starts at $500.
Both phones will land in North America only, at least for now. In the United States, you will be able to get both phones unlocked from Motorola.com, Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers. Pre-orders for the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) are open now with general sales starting April 28. Meanwhile, the Moto G (2022) will start general sales on May 19. Both phones will also be available from all manners of US carriers, but Motorola didn’t say when that would start.
Both phones will eventually land in Canada, but Motorola didn’t say when.
Motorola Moto G (2022)
The new Motorola Moto G (2022) has a large LCD display at 6.5 inches. It has an HD+ resolution (720p) with a 90Hz refresh rate within a 20:9 aspect ratio.
It’s powered by a decidedly budget MediaTek 5GC processor. In other words, don’t expect a ton of performance here. However, it will offer Sub6 5G support, so that’s a nice perk.
Paired with that processor, you’ll find a 5,000mAh battery with 10W wired charging speeds. It will also have up to 256GB of internal storage with the option to expand that with a microSD card for up to 1TB of more space. You’ll need to choose between 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
On the back, you’ll find a triple-sensor camera array with a 50MP main lens. Flanking that will be a macro lens and a depth sensor.
Finally, the Motorola Moto G (2022) launches with Android 12 out of the box. Motorola will upgrade it once to Android 13. Meanwhile, it will get three years of security patches on a bi-monthly basis.
Moto G Stylus 5G (2022)
As its name suggests, the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) is this year’s upgrade to the Moto G Stylus 5G (2021).
Notably, the processor here gets a significant upgrade. While the Moto G Stylus 5G (2021) had a Snapdragon 480 the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) has a Snapdragon 695, which is a considerable boost in power.
The display also gets a feature boost with the inclusion of a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s twice as fast as the 60Hz rate on the Moto G Stylus 5G (2021).
Unfortunately, Motorola isn’t upgrading its update promise for this phone. As with the Motorola Moto G (2022), the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) will only get one upgrade from Android 12 to Android 13. It will also get three years of bi-monthly security patches.
